Last week saw Laslett England at the ever popular and up-market Wealden Times Midwinter Fair.
Following recommendations from friends and other exhibitors I approached the Wealden Times and was delighted to be offered a stand.
AND what a grand Fair it is! The Wealden Times call it ‘The show everyone talks about…’
It is held in an impressive tented village set at the Hop Farm in Paddock Wood, Kent. With over 220 exhibitors in five large marquees, the colour coded giant balloons were essential markers to help both visitors and exhibitors navigate the show! It’s a very busy Fair and clearly many of the visitors make it an annual pilgrimage. For me it was a great opportunity to meet people, find new customers and best of all to showcase my scarves and pocket squares especially as they make great gifts for Christmas. It’s invaluable to do some direct selling, get feedback and find out what people respond to. Scarves are made to be felt and touched because how they feel, and look is equally as important as what patterns appeal. I’m also looking for a male audience to entice them to try a Pocket Square. Best of all I can show customers how versatile a scarf is and suggest ways to style them.
Best sellers were the superfine wool stars and a wool and silk scarf in bright orange. A new diamond-shaped silk scarf had a great reaction.
Pocket Squares are often bought as gifts but there are men out there who do wear and choose them as a finishing touch to a suit or smart jacket especially when a tie is no longer worn. Some men like to add to their collection!
Hope to see you next year!
